While there isn’t a ton of new information in this week’s sneaks from the @matchboxworld Instagram, there was one model significant enough to warrant a news post all on its own: the 1990 Honda Accord.

The most important part about this model isn’t the casting itself, but the wheels it rolls on. These wheels are brand new, and they look super cool! Matchbox’s premium models have a long history of being let down by their unattractive wheel designs, so a proper, premium-looking wheel from Matchbox is long overdue. While I always hesitate to judge a model without seeing it in person, I’m incredibly excited for this Accord. This is also the first time we’ve seen the final deco for this Honda, and I’m rather impressed by it. I’m glad Matchbox kept the look mostly stock, and the black trim pieces on the sides look great. My only concern is the size – this casting looks a bit too big compared to the 3000GT next to it. Luckily, it receives those awesome new wheels that turn this maybe of a casting into a gotta have it.

The Mitsubishi 3000GT casting is beginning to feel a bit overused, but I do like this pearl white paint color. The combination of white paint, chrome wheels, and a tan interior makes this 90’s-era tuner car feel perfectly period correct. This might be my favorite deco to date for this casting, though I think the 3000GT probably deserves a break after this release.

Where the 3000GT seems to just keep getting better with every release, this new Ford Capri feels like a bit of a letdown. The EMT liveries make enough sense on cars like the Ford Explorer, but I just don’t see the Ford Capri as a car that would be likely to see use by paramedics. Plus, this side detailing likely means the Capri will no longer receive any front or rear details.

We also saw a leaked image of an upcoming Porsche Macan recolor, in what I suspect is supposed to be Miami Blue! This is by far my favorite color on the Macan (and the one I wished we’d seen for the debut version). I’m glad my patience is being rewarded with what will likely be the definitive version of the Macan casting. This one is a must-buy.

On the topic of must-buys, I have to take a moment to appreciate this upcoming Red Edition Porsche 911 GT3. This fan-favorite casting has been the gift that keeps on giving, and I really like the look of this red version with its white wheels and stripes! While we can’t see the front end from this view, it seems likely that it will get full front detailing thanks to the increased budget available to Red Edition models. The brake lights are visible and a welcome sight. This is also the first time I remember seeing this model identified as a 2007 model year on the packaging. This casting has seen more than 20 outings (two of which were red!) yet it manages to still feel fresh and exciting thanks to the addition of white wheels and stripes.
That’s it for this week’s news! As always, the list of upcoming Matchbox models has been updated to reflect this new information.
