Matchbox News – 9/4/2023 – Aventador SVJ, CVCC Plate Variation, Ford GT Super Chase, and Recolors!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to write a news update, so this week’s Matchbox News will be covering a few weeks worth of content.  No new castings here, but a number of new recolors and our first look at an upcoming super chase!  To view everything that was previewed, check out the posts on the matchboxworld Instagram

One of the most exciting sneaks is the new Ford GT super chase!  The Ford GT casting has been around since 2005, but was recently retooled and seems to be back with a vengeance.  We can only see a little bit of the model, but all of the super chases so far have been fully detailed, so I think we can expect that here too.  This GT appears to be wearing Matchbox’s new premium five spokes that debut on the upcoming Lexus LFA, and they look rather good here.  Note that this super chase is not wearing the country themed deco that we’ve seen on every other super chase model so far.  Perhaps we will be getting a new super chase theme for 2024?

Sticking with the exotic theme, we have another look at the fantastic upcoming Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster.  I still can’t believe that Matchbox made this casting, or that they did such a good job of it.  The color, the deco, the shape…it’s all perfect.  Even the scissor doors are cool and appear well color-matched, making this one of the few castings to actually justify its moving parts.  I can’t wait to get this in hand, and I expect to write a full feature on it when I do.

That’s not the end of the exotics though, because we also saw a very green version of the Porsche 918 Spyder.  I assume this color is supposed to be Acid Green, but it looks just a tad too dark in these pictures, so I hope they brighten it up a bit for the final version.  I suspect this is part of the upcoming “Electric Drivers” 5 Pack, which looks to be stacked with a number of great cars.

Porsche fans will be happy, because we saw a couple other Porsches in these sneaks too, including a white recolor of the 911 GT3.  This looks very similar to the previous white release of the 911 GT3, though that one had silver 10 spokes.

The white on this Porsche Cayenne Turbo is far more exciting, though.  I love this casting, so I’m thrilled to see it getting so much use so early in its life.  Hopefully we see the same from the Macan, after its disappointing debut as a Super Chase.  Also, note the National Parks self driving bus and what appears to be a silver Ford Ranger in the background.

The Mazda RX-8 is already back for another recolor as well, in a wonderful shade of bright red!  I wasn’t a huge fan of the black debut version of this casting, but it looks much better in a proper shade of sports car red.

Collectors went crazy for the 1966 Dodge Charger when it debuted in orange, though I personally never cared for it.  For some reason, that color combined with the gray base just didn’t look right.  Both of those problems are now fixed, because this Charger looks amazing in metallic green with a chrome base, and I suspect this one will absolutely fly off the shelves.

One car that will not fly off the shelves, at least if history is any indication, is the London Taxi LEVC.  Luckily, I suspect this model is part of the upcoming “British Drivers” 5 pack, so it shouldn’t clog up the pegs like the black version did.

The Autozam AZ-1 is already making a return, this time in a bright red.  The proportions of this casting have never looked quite right to me, but at least it’s a clean deco!

As is this white recolor of the Dodge Charger.  It’s a handsome model, and I suspect I will pick this one up, but I must admit I’m growing a little tired of this casting.  I think it’s had too many releases too quickly.

Despite its numerous releases, I’m not tired of the Challenger SRT8 casting.  In one of the sneaks, you can just make out this light blue recolor of this all-time-great Matchbox casting.  I love the color, and I’m glad to see it back in the lineup!

Finally, we have the Honda CVCC in a very similar shade of light blue.  The most interesting part about this CVCC is the possible plate variation.  According to the comments on the Instagram post, the “BLUE MON” plate appears to be the final version, but some of the “MY76TOY” plates may have also made it into production, so keep your eyes peeled when this one hits the pegs!  I also appreciate the nod to #bluemondaymatchbox

2024 is definitely shaping up to be an exciting year for Matchbox, and I can’t wait for these models to start hitting retailers so I can see them in person!  Be sure to keep an eye on the upcoming Matchbox models page for a complete list of all the known models debuting in the near future!
