Matchbox News – 7/11/2022 – Moving Parts Mix 4 & 5, Best of France, and a White Durango

Matchbox sneaks and news have been fairly slow for the last few weeks, but enough information has slowly trickled out to justify another news update.  Hopefully, our patience will be rewarded in just a few weeks at The Gathering 2022, when we should get a full preview of what models are coming for the 2023 model year!

Matchbox Moving Parts Mix 4 2022

To start, Matchbox has officially confirmed the next Moving Parts assortment (Mix 4) that we saw posted online a few weeks ago.  The highlight of this case is easily the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, as I know I’m far from the only person who has been impatiently waiting for a new 911 in the Matchbox range.  It comes as a nice surprise that this case will feature only one repeated model – a rare blessing for collectors that need to order Moving Parts models by the case due to the line’s poor retail distribution.  The models included are:

  • 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S – Red
  • 1961 Jeep FC – Green
  • Henry J Gasser – Red Edelbrock Livery
  • 2020 Chevy Corvette – Blue
  • 1956 Chevy Suburban – Camp Arrow-Flint Livery
  • Toyota FJ Cruiser – Silver
  • 2016 BMW i8 – Gray
Matchbox Dodge Durange in White

In Matchbox’s 4th of July post, they showed a white recolor of the Dodge Durango which we have not seen previously.  This one seems to retain the headlight and taillight detailing from the debut release, and features all black five spoke wheels.  This looks to be the best version of the Durango yet!

Matchbox Ford GT-40 Moving Parts

The same post included our first look at an upcoming Ford GT-40 moving parts casting.  This seems most likely to appear as part of the Collector series given its full deco and rubber tires, but it could also appear as a Mattel Creations model.  It wears a rather striking coat of metallic light blue paint with racing stripes and the number 6.  Some familiar sponsor decals from Wilwood and Bell are present, along with headlight detailing.  The gas caps on either side of the windshield really stand out and help make this model a must-have.

Matchbox Best of France 2022 Leaks

Thanks to thunted, we also got our first look at the Citroen Ami, as well as another look at the 2022 Renault Megane that will be appearing in Mix 5.  These leaks also confirm where the gray recolor of the McLaren 720S Spider that Matchbox teased a few weeks ago will be appearing.  Unfortunately, this means it will be effectively inaccessible to US collectors unless it is included in a multipack or a future mainline mix.

Matchbox Moving Parts Mix 5 2022

Moving Parts Mix 5 was also confirmed by Thunted, with a number of models that have been teased by Matchbox on Instagram.  The post only shows 7 cars in the mix, so it’s unclear which model will be repeated.  Included in Mix 5 is the much anticipated re-do of the 2019 Ford Mustang convertible, which many collectors loathed for its unrealistic proportions when it debuted as a mainline casting.  The Ford Bronco is appearing as a new casting, this time an orange two door version.  Dare I say this one looks even cooler than the mainline?  The full mix includes:

  • 1975 Mitsubishi Lancer Celeste – Yellow
  • 2021 Ford Bronco 2-Door – Orange
  • 1978 Subaru Brat – Black
  • 2018 Land Rover Vogue SE – Gray
  • 2006 Ford Crown Victoria – Harbor Police Livery
  • 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix – Brown
  • 2019 Ford Mustang Convertible – Red

While the news has been relatively slow lately, it’s good to see these new mixes finally making their way through the supply chain and into stores.  In just a few short weeks, we will have a better view of the upcoming models thanks to The Gathering, which will be streamed live by Lamley Group!
