Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody – Looking Mean in Green

Many a Hot Wheels designer has commented on the challenges of designing a 1/64 scale car.  The challenge, they say, is that a car cannot just be scaled down to 1/64 because the proportions will look wrong on such a small car.  Instead, they must adapt the features of the car to fit on such a small model while maintaining the overall “feel” of the car.  This Charger Hellcat is a perfect example.

Its fenders are flared, much more than they are on the real car, making the model feel both lower and wider.  Filling out those flairs are wheels with such great fitment, they make one wonder how the premium Aventador ever left the factory.  The accent line in the Charger’s door is cut deep, far deeper than on the real car, which makes it catch the light in a way that more accurately represents the 1:1 version.

The details are spectacular on this model!  The honeycomb grill is so clearly defined and detailed, with a hood bulge that makes it look downright menacing.  You can just make out the SRT badge on the right side of the grill.

The back is the best part, however.  Beneath that signature lightbar, we see both Charger and SRT badges.  The spoiler has just the same signature shape as the full scale car, which really adds to the look of the casting.  Check out those vents in the rear bumper!  My favorite detail might just be the smallest – there is a little reflector on the rear wheel arch.  Fantastic attention to detail!

In fact, the biggest let down of this model is the carbon fiber pattern over the top of the car.  I hope someday we get a truly clean release of this casting, just the way you would see one leave the factory.  Until then, I’m happy we got this release, as the color and wheel combo just fits the character of the car so well.
